Personality:

• Stoic: He appears indifferent because he doesn't really display a wide range of emotions despite the various situations he's put in.  He doesn't actually mean to do this though.  It just comes naturally to him.
• Sensitive:  Though his expressions don't change a lot, Shay is actually pretty sensitive.  He takes what people say about him more seriously than he probably should so whenever something negative is said about him he gets a little hurt.
• Reclusive:  Shay isn't very social.  He's not shy per se, but he's not very good at engaging others.  Because of this, he tends to stick to his own company.  His pokemon are the exception.
• Doting:  Once Shay grows comfortable enough around someone he has the tendency to spoil them with excessive amounts of affection.  His Spheal experiences this constantly.
• Considerate:  Shay tries hard to consider other people's feelings whenever he makes his decisions.   He often places more need on the needs of others than his own.
• Laid back:  On his own or around people Shay is comfortable with, Shay is a relaxed and easy going person.  He gets things at his own pace (which might drive some people crazy if they're too stuck on getting things done right away)

History:

Shay used to live in the city, but found he didn't really like it.  It was too loud for his tastes and the large number of people made him nervous so he began living as a recluse and only left the house when he absolutely had to.  His parents became worried about this behavior and staged an intervention of sorts.  They talked it over with Shay and decided that Caprina Island might be the solution.  They figured that it'd be quieter than the city and that with a lot of secluded places to explore, he'd be able to get out more without feeling stressed.  On top of that, the smaller population meant that Shay might be able to meet people without becoming too stressed.  Unfortunately, his parent's jobs kept them from moving with him (though they visit occasionally).  To make up for not being able to be there with him, Shay's parents bought him a Spheal.  Shay instantly got attached to it and thanks to his pokemon's support he was able to move to Caprina Island with a bit of confidence.  He got good at fishing so that he could feed his Spheal and has used that skill to get by.


Extra Things to Note:

- He baby talks his Spheal when he thinks no one is watching.

- He isn't all that interested in food in general.  He kind of just eats because he has too.  Shay is much more interested in feeding his Spheal and always carries around snacks for her.

- He loves wearing shorts and even tries to wear them during winter.  He'll only switch over to pants when it's really cold.

- Large crowds make him nervous so attending festivals takes a lot out of him.  He still tries to attend though since this is something he's trying to get over.
